Nisbets is the UK’s largest supplier of catering equipment. The company is based in Avonmouth and currently has nearly 1000 employees across the UK. Nisbets also has offices in Ireland, Holland, Belgium, Germany, France, Spain and Australia and its export division ships to over 100 countries worldwide.
Nisbets and their design and planning team are bringing forward proposals for an extension and improvements to their Fourth Way site in Avonmouth. The proposals are for a 1,400sq m extension to the existing building, within the north east corner of the site, adjacent to Avonmouth Way. The extension will provide additional ground floor warehouse space for the existing goods inwards operation and first floor office accommodation, which will either be linked internally or externally to the existing office area. The scheme will also provide space for improvements in working conditions for current employees. A new access to the site will be provided off Avonmouth Way, and the layout of parking for staff and customers and vehicle movements is also being re-designed.
Summary of development proposals:
- Erection of a two storey extension to provide ground floor B8 floorspace and first floor B1 accommodation with a link to existing B1 floorspace on the north-west side of the building;
- Creation of an additional vehicular access point specifically for HGVs and articulated lorries from Avonmouth Way;
- Reconfiguration of the existing site circulation to better facilitate vehicular movements around the site and ensure the separation of pedestrians, staff and visitors from large vehicular movements;
- Additional car and cycle parking provision; and
- Associated landscaping.
Nisbets held a consultation event on 11 December to share the emerging proposals with key stakeholders and adjacent neighbours and submitted a pre-application to Bristol City Council just before Christmas.
Following feedback from the public consultation event and the Council’s formal response, the intention is to submit a full planning application for the finalised development proposal in March 2015.
