SevernNet Working – £1.7m Coastal Communities Opportunity

SevernNet Working is the project that’s been developed by a number of partner organisations across the area. On the 26th Jan 2015 the Big Lottery announced  that SevernNet Working was one of the successful bids for support from the Coastal Communities Fund. As of 19th March 2015 we are awaiting the formal offer letter and go ahead from the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG).

Just over £1.2m will be made available between the time of final grant and Dec 2016 to:

  • get a shuttle bus in operation across Avonmouth and Severnside
  • improve the cycling and walking infrastructure between A4 Portway Park and Ride and Cabot Park along St. Andrews Road
  • strengthen the provision of employment and enterprise support in Avonmouth and Lawrence Weston
  • further build the business and community cooperation across the area through SevernNet.

‘SevernNet Working’ is a partnership between Ambition Lawrence Weston, Avonmouth Community Centre, Bristol City Council, Knightstone Housing Association, SevernNet, S. Glos. Council and The Bristol Port Company.

We would like to thank our partners who have worked with us tirelessly over the last three years to secure this funding … and we look forward to support from businesses and community organisations across the area over the next couple of years as we roll out the initiatives.

The two employment and enterprise hubs in Avonmouth and Lawrence Weston will provide skills and employability training and coaching, job seeking support, work club services, a social enterprise recruitment agency providing job brokerage services together with start-up business support and advice. The hubs will be providing these services to meet the needs of the employers and the residents.

The work in Lawrence Weston is part of Ambition Lawrence Weston’s Big Local Employment project. The project has just been given a kick start as Joanna Clarkson has come on board as the full time Employment Project worker for the coming year. Joanna is just finding here feet. We’ll be providing more details about the project and how you can get involved in the next few weeks.
