With more than 16 million sq.ft. of warehousing and light industrial development complete or proposed within Portbury, Avonmouth and Severnside, there is a need to secure a competent, trained work-force possessing all the skills to deliver a 21st century distribution centre. The requirement for a local skills academy is obvious; a facility offering regulatory requirements for employers and the training and education for school-leavers, apprentices and more senior staff.
The Bristol Port Company, SevernNet and Skills for Logistics, working with other stakeholders across the area, recognise the urgency of the need and welcome your views.
Weston College has identified that the area has the potential for an extension to complement their existing training and further education facilities and they have the track record of very successful project delivery from start-up and build, through to ongoing operation.
A business proposal has been submitted to the West of England Combined Authorities and Local Enterprise Partnership to secure investment in the creation of a high quality training facility which meets all of our needs moving forward.
