Representatives from fourteen local businesses and organisations came together yesterday evening (29th October) to learn more about Bloodhound SSC – the Avonmouth based project to break the land speed record with a car designed to achieve just over 1000 mph.
The event, organised by SevernNet and hosted by Bloodhound SSC, provided an opportunity to find out more about the car, its engineering and progress to date; the people involved; and see the build in progress. Attendees were also able to actively contribute to the project through a donation of £10. In return their names will be added to the tail fin of the car. If you missed the event but would like to support the project find out more here.
The project has already overcome a number of significant engineering challenges … and has an important educational programme which is helping to inspire the next generation to deal with our global 21st century challenges.
There were a number of aspiring young engineers in the audience who enjoyed the presentation, the fascinating video clips of some of the testing so far … and were able to take home a balloon car kit to experiment with. You can buy one on-line here.
There was also plenty of opportunity for networking throughout the evening, and several new introductions were made.
BBC Points West and the Bristol Post paid the event a visit and a clip was broadcast during the Ten o clock news.
We look forward to supporting the project through the rest of it’s development here in Avonmouth.
