Virtual Business Breakfast – Thurs. 23th July 2020 We’d like to thank Joe Smith from Weston College for his presentation this morning (July 23rd) at July’s Virtual Business Breakfast. The opportunities for organisations to be supported through Apprenticeships, Traineeships and Industrial Placements have been given a boost through recent government announcements. Joe’s presentation available here explains Apprenticeships, Traineeships and Industrial Placements, together with the impact of the government interventions. You can also download a flyer on Industrial Placements here. This morning’s breakfast was well attended via Zoom with a number of new faces including from Mabanaft, DigiLocal, Bell Group and S. Glos. Council’s skills team. We also heard that The Avon Lodge Cafe in Third Way, acquired by Mabanaft, has recently had a facelift and is looking forward to meeting you in August when you can benefit from the  ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme (more on this soon). Sam Marsh (SevernNet Sustainable Travel Officer) talked about continuing work to improve walking and cycling paths around the area, and work with Bristol City Council to identify key areas for maintenance. We’d like to thank Cllr Jo Sergeant for working with us on this to help clear up the important walking & cycling route – Lawrence Weston Road. If you use this route regularly, or know people who do, we’d love to hear from you Paul Young told us about how LED Lights 4 You has adapted to the current situation and developed and launched an online LED Lighting design service. We look forward to catching up with everyone again at September’s Business Breakfast. Please note, we depend on our subscribing members to fund our work for you and the area. SevernNet recruiting Walking and Cycling Officer

An area wide network of well-maintained cycle and walking paths enabling safe access to and from work is a long held SevernNet ambition. With funding support from Highways England, and working in partnership with Sustrans, this is now a realisable ambition.

Highways England has, and is, investing in improvements to local cycle and walking paths, and providing funding to support the additional work needed to enable sustainable use of the cycle and walking network by local people, employers and their colleagues. This investment by Highways England is linked to development of the M49 Junction.

Sustrans is designing and delivering the new cycling and walking infrastructure and jointly providing, with SevernNet, a behaviour change programme.

We’re looking for a colleague to work with us who shares our vision for cycle and walking and more widely sustainable travel, across the area, and can work with local people, employers, colleagues travelling to/from work, local authorities, Sustrans and other stakeholders to make this happen.

The role will involve engaging and connecting with businesses, their staff, local communities and others, encouraging people to work together towards an increase in cycling and walking, particularly to and from work. You will be building on existing networks, groups and relationships to achieve this.

The role will be based in St. Andrew’s House, Avonmouth, in the SevernNet office.

Applications are invited by close of business (17:00) on Wednesday 24th January 2019. Further details and the Job Description are available to download here.
