On 29th September SevernNet and the SevernNet Working partnership teamed up with Department of Works and Pensions and the Ways2Work network to run a Job Fair at Shirehampton Job Centre.

Over 20 local businesses who were looking to recruit attended (more details below), and left with application forms and contact details for potential applicants. A number of interviews were held there and then.

320 potential applicants came through the door.

We’ll provide links to case studies from this event soon …

Event invitation and details

Twenty local employers with full and part time vacancies to fill are looking forward to meeting potential recruits. Anyone everyone thinking of getting a job is welcome to come along to the Job Fair.

SevernNet Working has teamed up with Bristol City Council, South Glos. Council, the Department for Work and Pensions and the Ways2Work network to bring employers together, to demonstrate the diversity of employment opportunity across the area, and show how easy it can be to get to work in Avonmouth these days!

A range of jobs will be on offer from industries as diverse as a Distributor of Spa Beauty Products to specialists in Heavy Lifting, with other roles including warehouse operatives, drivers, administrators, call centre operatives and engineers.

Some of the employers are also offering apprenticeships.

Confirmed employers attending include The Bristol Port Company, Elemis, Kings Lifting, Wainwrights, Nisbets, Wessex Bus, Expeditors, Granville Care, Stapletons Tyres, Warburtons and Kier Construction (full list below).

Advisors will be on hand to discuss training, interview techniques and general careers information. Jo and Lucy, the SevernNet Working Employment Support Workers from Avonmouth and Lawrence Weston can introduce you to the geography of the area, local employers and the ongoing support they can offer.

Transport to the Jobs Fair is easy with buses stopping just a few minutes walk away and Shirehampton Railway Station close by. The Severn Beach Line can easily be taken from Temple Meads, Lawrence Hill and other stations.

To show you how easy it is to get to work if you are looking for a job in the Avonmouth or Severnside areas, we will be offering free trips on the SevernNet Flyer shuttle bus while the Jobs Fair is on. You will be able to see the route it takes and which employers it passes. Tours around the area are planned to leave on the hour at 11:00, 12:00 and 13:00. Come early to take advantage of this offer – the number of employers it drives past is incredible and it makes taking a job in this area so much easier than it used to be!

Manor Singh, SevernNet Business Network Manager “Make the most of this opportunity – Christmas is coming and there will be extra vacancies as well as all the regular jobs”

Lucy Davis, Avonmouth Employment Support Worker “Come ready to impress the employers and you could leave with a date for an interview. If that happens, the interview should be easier as you will have already met the employer here – and this could be the best way to boost your job chances!”.

Zoe Joyner, Nisbets “Nisbets has seen considerable growth over the last few year and as an expanding company we encourage local talent to join us, 30% of colleagues already live in the local area.  We have a whole host of vacancies from warehouse operatives to customer service operatives available.”

The jobs fair takes place at Shirehampton Job Centre on Thursday 29th September, from 10:00 to 14:00.
