Managing Resources & Driving Sustainability through Circular Economy

Our first Business Breakfast in 2025, hosted by SUEZ Recycling & Recovery UK, discovered the journey of our wastes and provided valuable insights from industry leaders about the latest innovation in tackling waste and advancing the circular economy.

• We kicked off with Steph Saenz, Key Account Manager at SUEZ, providing an introduction to the circular economy and waste hierarchy, highlighting how businesses can integrate these principles into their operations to reduce waste.
• David Appleby, Energy-from-Waste (EFW) Plant Manager at SUEZ UK, gave an overview of the energy-from-waste process and the role of carbon capture in reducing emissions.
• Fred Stinchcombe, Regional Manager at SUEZ UK, explained the functions of Material Recycling Facilities (MRFs) and how they contribute to improving recycling rates and material recovery.
• Karl Whitfield, Field Sales Executive at SUEZ UK, provided an important update on the upcoming Simpler Recycling legislation changes, which will come into effect from 31st March 2025 for businesses with 10 or more employees.
• Benita Benny, Circular Economy Facilitator at SevernNet, shared opportunities for getting involved locally in circular economy & decarbonisation initiatives. You can register your interest for our ongoing initiatives here.

• We wrapped up the session with a Q&A, followed by an update from Kate Royston, Director of SevernNet, on SevernNet activities, upcoming events and roadworks. The presentation is available here.
• We were also joined by the team from St. Andrew’s Church and Bristol North West Foodbank Social Justice Hub promoting their work and the exciting SPEAR initiative which is seeking to provide work experience for young people. You can find out more at March’s Business Breakfast on 20th March.

We are delighted to report that no food waste was generated during this event, with all leftover catering being donated to Bristol North-West Foodbank Social Justice Hub.
