Route 40 – have you tried it?

Do you know about Big Lemon’s no. 40 bus? After First bus’ route changes to the 3 and 4, a need arose to create a new a bus service to keep Avonmouth connected. The service is running from the Brentry Roundabout on Crow Lane, through Henbury and Lawrence Weston to Avonmouth, Farr Street. On schooldays there is also an afternoon school service from St Bede’s School to Cribbs Causeway via Station Road, Henbury. SEE TIMETABLES and route here

Use it or lose it! With funding in place for a limited time, the operator may only be able to continue the service if sufficient numbers use it. This WESTlocal route is an 18 month trial funded by the West of England Combined Authority and delivered in partnership with SevernNET. 

Rail: Severn Beach Line

The Severn Beach Train Line is an important transport link for the PAS area.  Rail timetables: For up to date Severn Beach Line timetables please see Great Western Railway’s timetable page here. Stations include:

• Severn Beach – for Warburtons, GKN, Royal Mail, Tesco, Chep, Amazon BRS1, The Range and Lidl
• Andrew’s Rd – for Asda, Encirc, Co-op, Muller, John Lewis and Amazon SBS2
• Avonmouth – for Bristol Port Company, Ocado, Nisbets, Real Wrap, Plant-Ex, Evri, Bristol Waste, Wessex Water
• Portway Park & Ride – for local villages of Shirehampton and Lawrence Weston
• Shirehampton – for Shirehampton
• Sea Mills – for Sea Mills, Stoke Bishop, Coombe Dingle
• Clifton Down – Clifton’s shops and workplaces and Cotham Hill
• Redland – Redland
• Montpelier – for Gloucester road shops and businesses
• Stapleton Rd – for St Mark’s Rd shops, Easton, Greenbank and the wider BS5 postcode area
• Lawrence Hill – for the BS5 postcode including Lawrence Hill, Barton Hill, Redfield, St George, Fishponds, and beyond. Workplaces include Lidl.
• Bristol Temple Meads – for the city Centre or trans further afield.
• Some Severn beach Line trains will continue to Weston Super Mare via Bedminster (postcode BS3), Parson Steet, Nailsea, Yatton, Worle, Weston Milton and Weston Super Mare.

Rail: Reaching the Severn Beach Line

The map below shows the areas from which it is possible to reach a station within 15 minutes. By travelling by bike or scooter you can reach the SBL from a wide radius. 

Buses- routes and timetables

The main bus routes in the PAS area are:

• First Route 41 – Between Avonmouth and Kingswood (East Bristol) via the City Centre
• First Route 3&4 – Between Cribbs Causeway and the City Centre via Lawrence Weston – See route here

• Stagecoach Route 9 is an important link into the PAS area to East Bristol and Brislington, close to St Anne’s, Knowle and Whitchurch.

• Stagecoach Route 12 and 11 (11 has only three services a day however) help commuters to reach Western Approach business park (for Warburtons, GKN, Royal Mail, Tesco, Chep, Amazon BRS1, The Range and Lidl)

Stagecoach 41

Linking East Bristol BS5 to Avonmouth & Cabot Park BS11. This service is relatively new and is beneficial because it links East Bristol, previously un-connected by bus to PAS and BS11 postcodes, meaning Kingswood, St George, Redfield, Barton Hill and Lawrence Hill are now connected. The service also goes into the heart of Cabot Park business park, previously unconnected by bus.

Sustainable Travel

How your colleagues get to work is important. Everyone driving separately can cause problems with parking, clog up the roads, delay business deliveries, and lead to a more isolated, stressed and unhealthy workforce.

Sustainable travel however can bring many benefits: reducing traffic problems, attracting and retaining staff and increasing the wellbeing, happiness and productivity of your staff every day. Promoting sustainable travel is a fantastic way to show you care about your colleagues, your area and your environment.

Travel Action Plans

A Travel Action Plan is an easily digestible document detailing existing transport options, staff travel behaviour and identified motivators and barriers to active and sustainable travel. It also provides a step by step implementation plan to boost your productivity, profitability and competitiveness through the implementation of an action plan to encourage a reduction in single person car journeys.

Bike Loans

We have a fleet of hire bikes which we are loaning for FREE to key workers for up to 3 months, to help people get to work. Contact us to reserve a bike.

Match Funding

Travel West have 50% match-funded grants available for initiatives that improve  sustainable travel provision in a business.

That includes the implementation of physical measures, promotional events or any other measure that will encourage mode change amongst staff. Examples of these include new or improved cycle parking or storage facilities, parking management facilities, signage of cycling routes, provision of pool bikes, improvement of pedestrian access to and within the site, provision of car sharing bays in staff car parks, electric vehicle charge points, promotion of car sharing and events to promote walking and cycling.

We also offer fully funded small grants up to the value of £250. Some ideas for small grants include organising a bike/walk breakfast or purchasing prizes to run your own active travel challenge.
